Single-Interface USB Devices When a new USB device is plugged in, the system-supplied USB hub driver composes the following device ID by using information extracted from the device's device descriptor: USB VIDv (4)&PIDd (4)&REVr (4).

1. It’s not rocket science, but being able to quickly identify and find drivers for unknown devices in Windows can save a lot of time, especially if you’re constantly upgrading or building systems.
2. The device does not have a device driver: When a device driver for a device is not available, Device Manager displays the device as Unknown Device and puts it in the Other devices branch. This is very common with universal serial bus (USB) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) 1394 composite devices.
